El Concierto de las Aves is a place where many endemic species of birds can be spotted daily. These include the Andean Cock of the Rock, the Andean Motmot, Quetzals and at least 7 species of hummingbird. Conveniently located between Quito and the Amazon, it is the perfect spot for those who wish to admire the Andean Cloud Forest.
We have two observation points where birds gather every day. We also have trails that lead to waterfalls and a Cock of the Rock lek, a tree where males of the species perform courtship displays for females. In a given day, up to 9 males have been seen at the lek.
Located in a valley that connects two large tracts of primary forest, the project began in 2018 when Victor Manitio and his family began to reforest the valley, which had been turned into cow pasture. Shortly after beginning to reforest, animals began to return. Starting with the hummingbirds, followed by cock of the rock, quetzals, an enormous variety of birds and even pumas and the Andean or spectacled bear.
The valley is located at 1,600 meters above sea level on the eastern side of the Andes. On one edge of the valley is the Sumaco Napo-Galeras National Park. At a short distance are Cayambe-Coca and Antisana National Parks.
We are open every day of the week. Hummingbirds can be seen at all times and other species are more likely to be seen in the mornings (between 6:30 and 8:00 A) or in the afternoons (after 4 PM), especially on sunny days.
The cost of the visit is $15 dollars for foreign persons, $5 for Ecuadorian nationals. Any additional tips will help continue the labor of reforestation.
You can come without a reservation or, preferably, contact Victor Manitio on Whatsapp at + 593-98-884-0297 or by email at conciertodelasaves@hotmail.com
We also have camping sites available at $5 per person per night, or alternatively there is lodging available at the nearby towns of Baeza and San Francisco de Borja.
